I JUST NEED SOMEONE TO TELL ME HOW TALL I AM
Review: Not Lame Recordings
A most unusual release, but don't get me wrong, read on. Starting off on confident, focused footing, the first 4 of the first 5 songs on this 11 song release are T-Bone Burnett produced pop songs filled with beautiful sounding guitars, lovely, lifting 3 part vocal harmonies, hooks any pop fan can fall under the spell of. As a matter of fact Song #2, "Choked Up" is down right someting I can't get out of my head and on first listen, had to play it 3 times in a row before moving along. But then there is a shift that takes place, a second personality comes into view. Not that it's a bad thing, but it's something totally different than what preceeds itself. Part 2 is excellent Marah, Wilco styled alt-ish country-ish rock with a decisively moody edging drawing up alongside. It's just that it sounds like two different bands on one cd, both very, very good bands, but not of the same musical family when it comes to packaging. Which makes all the mor sense when you understand they are British and have emigrated to the US. That said, I highly recommend the disc for fans who love a dose of rootsy Americana with their pop diet!
