I JUST NEED SOMEONE TO TELL ME HOW TALL I AM

Road Movies: B+
Crack open the Minibar and what do you see? A flask of Wilco, some Wallflowers and a tiny bottle of Crowded House. Not a bad mix for a good night of crafty Americanized British pop. Produced by Mr. American Classic himself, T. Bone Burnett, Road Movies proves you don't have to be born and bred in the U.S. of A. to nail the sounds of the great modern alt-country West. From the plucky and perky "Choked Up" (penned by Whiskeytown's singer-songwriter Ryan Adams) to the lonelier "Lost in the Details," tight Brit songcraft keeps the transplanted Limeys' tunes from wandering too far off the country-flavored edge. Still, with a decisively delicate touch on the pedal steel guitar, mandolins and harmonicas included here--and somehow clearing up any traces of an accent--it's nearly impossible to distinguish this from the real deal.
